Trip Description
This is a bus trip from Woodside High School (WHS) to the LA/Orange County area for ALL WHS music ensemble students (Marching/Concert Band, Jazz Band + Vocals, Orchestra). Buses will depart school on Friday May 16th (early afternoon) and return on Sunday May 18th 2025 (late)
The trip includes transportation, accommodation, entrance to Disneyland Theme Parks, and some meals (Friday’s 1st night dinner, Saturday’s breakfast, Sunday’s breakfast and return meal, and bus snacks). Students will be responsible to pay for their own lunch and dinner on Saturday and any incidentals (e.g., items at Disneyland).
Students, staff, and chaperones will spend Friday and Saturday night at a Best Western hotel near Disneyland. Students will be lodged in either 3-person or 4-person same-gender hotel rooms. A block of rooms for families at a discounted rate will be available at this same hotel. More details will follow.
All music ensembles will participate in the "Soundtrack Sessions" workshop, part of the Disney Imagination Campus educational program. Students will learn a repertoire of Disney music and record their own performance piece. They will work with Disney teaching artists to hone fundamental skills including intonation, musical balance, and tone quality. In addition to sight-reading practice and ensemble training, students will learn how phrasing, dynamics, and articulation can add emotion to music. The workshop will culminate with a screening of the students' recorded work set to Disney film footage. Students will experience the excitement, focus, and fast-paced energy of a professional recording studio environment and will gain insight into careers in the recording and film industries.
After completion of the Disney Imagination Campus educational program on Saturday, May 17th, students will have time to visit the Disneyland Theme Parks with chaperones and WHS staff.
All music ensembles will also participate in a performance exchange with a Southern California high school on Sunday, May 18th before returning home.
